LensAlign MKII microfocal calibration kit is a very acurate tool for adjusting microfocus on your camera. The kit is simple in concept, but a very precisely built measuring setup that allows to accurately measure and then adjust the focusing accuracy of most modern cameras.
The digital SLR cameras are all mass produced, and many of them when you bring them home, may exhibit slight problems with focusing, notably back or front focusing. Back focusing occurs when autofocus locks at a distance further away than what you want the lens to focus on, while front focusing occurs when autofocus locks at a distance closer than the focus target.
While the difference may be imperceptible when focusing at long distances with stopped down lens, it can become a killer when focusing wide open in macro shots. Detecting the problem is often more difficult than it may seem. You can build a DIY gadget to correct the autofocusing problem, but LensAlign is a highly accurate tool which helps you to optimize your lenses in an easy, consistent, and effective way.
Bear in mind, that MA only corrects consistent back or front focus issues, it is not going to help with random AF misses. If you have two different camera formats, i.e. one camera is DX and the other FF, you’ll find that the DX model is more difficult to microadjust than FF because of the greater DOF.
If you shoot professionally, you can’t always afford to send out your lenses for calibration. It’s great to have a tool that allows you to check your lenses before an important shoot, so that you know the lenses will perform at their best. When you purchase LensAlign kit, it comes with a video tutorial and customer support to ensure the proper adjustment, which eliminates any errors and wasted time.
Which cameras allow focus microadjustment?
Canon: 1DsMkIII, 1DMkIII, 1DMkIV, 5DMkII, 7D, 50D
Nikon: D3, D3x, D3s, D300. D300s, D700, D7000
Sony: A900, A850
Olympus: E-30, E-620

Could you get the same results using a simpler method? Possibly or close. But Lens Align Pro is quick, simple, consistent, and works like a charm. If you already have some good lenses and the camera, it could be your best investment yet. And if you ever need to send your lens to the service, it would be the best accompanying documentation you can have.
